Catching up on Project 365

I have been working on my LO's for Project 365. I am still enjoying this challenge and it is hard to believe that January is almost done! It is really fun to look at this assortment of photos in the same LO! It is a great way to use up papers from the sale bin that I never had the "lumpy" stuff to go with.

Week #3 was done with papers from BG and SassaFras! The first LO was not done with a specific sketch, more of a "mish mash" approach. I got the idea of sewing the circles from a LO done by Jennifer Findley! You can visit her blog here. She has such a talent! The second LO for Week #3 is based on sketch #24 at The Scrappiest. I flipped the sketch and changed it a bit. It is almost impossible to follow a sketch to it's true design with this project. I am slowly accepting that this project is not so much about design and composition, it is all about the documentation. The journaling for the movie "The Lovely Bones" was cut out of a picture that I took of the movie sign at the cinema. This journaling idea was yet another great idea from DH, Robert! Too funny when he comes up with these suggestions that work!! :) Oh, and regarding the movie, just skip it and read the book! The book was so awesome and the movie a real disappointment. It usually is that way. A great book does not usually translate into a great movie.

Week #4 was done using these fun papers from Sassa Fras! Got these in the sale bin for $0.20!! Gotta love it!! This first one is based on sketch #41 from The Scrappiest.

This next Lo for Week #4 is based on sketch #8 from The Scrappiest. I cut the petals of a paper flower to make the border down the side of the photo is Gus! This project really does make me find ways to use paper more creatively! The self imposed "nothing lumpy" rule is challenging me! Looking back on the Week #4 LO's makes me realize what a non exciting week it was!! LOL

On an exciting note, I woke up this morning to learn that I won this week's prize at Sketch Inspiration!! I am still in shock and can't believe that I won a prize again!! The LO was done with my prize papers I won at 52 Sketches 52 Weeks!! Too funny. I don't usually win things so I'm sure that I am done now for quite a while!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

"Today"

One last LO of Diane and Jeff in Cuba. I was so happy to break out my BG Origins again, although I am really getting down to scraps now. :( This line just seemed perfect for the background foliage of this photograph. The sketch I used is the latest from Pencil Lines #171.

I'm hoping to get caught up on Project 365 this weekend. Hope you all get in a little bit of scrapping fun too!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Some More Sunshine

I'm having so much fun working on these very sunny photographs from Diane's trip to Cuba. Soon I'll have to get back into Christmas mode and finish up those last couple of pages. This is Diane and her good friend, Christine. It is based on a sketch by Jana Eubank that I found on her blog. I used some BG Sugar Rush papers. I wasn't intending to do quite that much stitching until I made a mistake of where I pierced on one circle element, then I was stuck doing double the amount than I was originally intending to do. Oh well, I have been in a stitching kind of mood lately and am happy with the end result. This is a busy LO but I liked the fun whimsical feeling of it. I was able to use up some more of my "Bloomers" flowers from BG. The alphas are from the BG Indian Summer line. I love how so many of the BG lines really work with each other. It makes using up scraps much easier to do.

I only have one more LO of Diane's trip to do and I'm thinking that some BG Origins may be just the line! Yay!! I'm thinking lots of sunny yellow!!

Hope you are all having lots of scrapping fun! Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

A Taste of Summer

Well, it is a chilly January day here in Alberta. How much longer until spring?? Oh how I long for a walk with my pups on a warm day with the sound of birds singing and a warm breeze on my face. I'm guessing that it is still a four month wait. :(

I had so much fun scrapping this LO yesterday. Diane and Jeff and friends spent a week in Cuba. Oh to be young and look this cute in a bikini! I was lucky enough to be given a handful of photos for my own scrapping use! Score!! Hard copies of photos from people in my daughters' generation is a rare thing! I am still hoping for a copy of a picture of Lisa in Cuba from her trip, this time last year. I'm not giving up hope. ;) A mother's guilt trip is a powerful thing! LOL It was so much fun to use summer papers. These are from Fancy Pants and I was so happy to find a good use for them. The sketch is one from Julie Bonner's blog. I love how Julie's sketches lend themselves to much layering and the circle element is usually present. The sketches are always so original!

Today is another scrappy day for me. A wonderful way to spend a chilly afternoon. I'll be putting on the fireplace to stay cozy and so the pups can curl up for a warm winter nap. I guess it is the next best thing to a warm springtime walk.

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Prize Papers

I received my prize package from Julie at 52 Sketches 52 Weeks and couldn't wait to cut into them. This LO was done using the MME "Be Loved" collection. I love the soft muted tones in this line. It lends itself well to that vintage vibe that I love. This is Diane and Moose just before we left to drop Moose off for a one week stay at the kennel, hence the forced smile on Diane's face. She worries about her baby, as all good mamas do. :) He did really well and even got a good report card upon his departure. I told Diane that they lied! LOL So, Moose did fine and Diane had an awesome holiday in Cuba! I used Trisha's Sketch #108 from Sketch Inspirations. It was a really fun sketch to work with and I even stepped outside my box and used some ribbon. This photo of my LO has shadows from the sun but, it is that or a dull winter light photo. Just a few short months and the lighting will be great again! :) These days I am like a cat looking for a sunny patch. Oh, what we do for the love of this hobby.

Basic Grey has revealed five new paper lines! This is a scary thing for me, as I tend to go nuts over all BG lines and want it all!! Scary amount of money for paper!! Luckily for me, there is only two lines that I really care for and didn't really have a crazy "awwww" moment that I usually have. My favourite line is "Green at Heart". I love the vibrant colours in it. I love those little tags called, "pieces" that they have for each line. My second favourite is "Kioshi". I like the pastel shades and the amount of purple in it. Purple just makes me happy! You can check out the new BG here.

Valentine Gift Boxes

For anyone looking for a cute and very economical Valentine's Day gift idea, look no further. Take a peek at Helen Croft's blog where she has full instructions and a printable template to make up these cute little gift boxes. Helen always has amazing paper crafting ideas on her blog!

I was so happy with the way my first one came out, although I did forget to ink the edges. :( It was really easy to make and a good way for me to use up some of my sale bin paper stash! I plan on making many more! :)

Baby Thomas!!

Just wanted to share the big new of the arrival of my little nephew! Thomas was born on the evening of January 20th. He weighed in at 8lbs 1oz and is just beautiful!! He is perfect in every way and has the little face of an angel!! Our family is so excited as it has been 18 years since the last cousin was born. So little Thomas has 4 cousins on our side of the family! They are 22,20,19 &18 years old. LOL No cousin play dates for Thomas. Too funny. So, I can't wait to meet this wonderful little person in May. Here he is at less than one day old! :)
Hope to get some scrapping done this weekend. Happy scrapping to all!! Jen :)

Week #2

It is an exciting day today in my family, as we wait for word on the arrival of my little nephew. If not today, then tomorrow for sure! I am so excited to meet this little person, although a photograph will have to hold me until I go to Montreal this spring.
Here are my latest LO's for my Project 365. I'm loving this project! It is so much fun to get photographs of the day to day things that we usually don't think about documenting. This project really does make a person think of the value of each day, no matter how ordinary and uneventful it may be. I used Cosmo Cricket "Girl Friday" papers. I made my alphas with my Cricut. I then stamped onto the kraft paper letters with a stamp that said, "January". I love the way it came out. I got this idea from Sarah on her blog, Scropping. Thanks Sarah. :)
This first LO is based on a sketch from Julie Bonner. It was sketch #20 on 52 Sketches 52 Weeks, last year.

This LO is based on a sketch from Creative Scrappers. It is sketch #87. I will definitely use this sketch again.
It is a scrappy day for me today! :) Hope you all are getting in some scrap time too. :)

Lil' Monster

I finally found the perfect sketch to do this LO! I have had these photos and pictures since last June and it finally feels great to get it done! It is based on sketch #107 at Sketch Inspiration. This is the story of how Maggie spent 10 minutes with Rob's Father's Day ice cream cake, before we realized! We had left it to thaw a little before cutting, but we forgot to push the chair in. When we returned, this is what we found. We knew it was Maggie because she had blue icing on her snout and Gus does not jump vertically. Poor Gussy, he is a chubby dog, but even as a pup he wouldn't jump up. It's a confidence issue. ;)

In my next post I will be sharing Week #2 of Project 365. I am really enjoying the challenge of this project. It is fun to look at these random photos of the week.

Needing A Laugh?

This just made me laugh! Hilarious!! I think I saw myself in there... one of the manic knitters. Who doesn't love Bedazzled tops and gold lame stretch pants!?!?

Enjoy it here.

No More Shaggy Maggie

Well, Maggie is back from the groomers and she is looking great and smelling much better too!! ;) She was a few weeks late with her grooming due to surgery in December. We had to wait for the incision to fully heal. Gus had a great day pretending that he was "an only dog"! Yes, I am a SAHM to two little furry beasts!!

I always feel compelled to take pictures when the pups have just been groomed. However, other than the colour of the bandana changing, the photo is pretty much the same... a pooped dog on the sofa! LOL I had to sound all excited to get her to drag her head up from the sofa cushion. Didn't want yet another floating dog head photo!

I completed my LO for this week's sketch #106 for Sketch Inspiration. I enjoyed this sketch of Trisha's but it was bit of a challenge. Lots of layering. I really should have used a smaller photo. So much of my border is covered. :( Trust me, under that photo is a wonderful piece of scrappy goodness!! LOL

I'm feeling that I am in a creative slump! Feels like my LO's are looking too similar. I spent some time looking at mags for some inspiration. Well, it hasn't hit me yet! Maybe tomorrow?

Happy Scrapping!! Jen

One Week Down and 51 More to GO!

Well, I got to work last night on the first week's LO's for Project 365. I think I am going to really enjoy this project!! I do admit that I was missing my buttons and brads and all things lumpy, but I like the challenge of using paper products more effectively. I will also be getting lots of use out of my Cricut! I figure that this project is all about the documentation, not the design.

I used Cosmo Cricket's "Very Merry" collection on both LO's. The first LO is based on a sketch by Aphra Bolyer. It is the first sketch that she has posted in her blog! The second LO is based on a sketch by Julie Bonner, also on her blog. It is very gloomy here today so these photos are not looking the best. :(

The Perfect Winter Day

Today was one of those beautiful January winter days that just calls you to come out and play! It sure beats the bitterly cold days that beg you to stay in, get your jammies on and have some tea! Rob and I took the pups for a walk around our neighbourhood lake, which I refer to as, "the slough". I have been corrected on my use of this word as it does have the feeling of something being run down. Our slough is awesome, but who are we kidding, it is not a lake!! Personally, I think that to even call it a pond would be a stretch! So we had the camera with us and were both taking turns snapping pictures of our winter surroundings. There were kids playing hockey, parents shoveling the ice, families tobogganing, babies being pulled in sleds and even a beautiful dog wearing very warm looking booties! On days like this I am a proud Canadian who feels fortunate to get to enjoy this season! I got some great photos for my "Winter" album.
Here is my best shot. Love the blurred background and the colour of the berries.

Here is Rob's best shot. Okay, I have to admit that he does take better photographs than me! He did also go off the foot bridge into a pile of snow and was down in the snow to get the shot through the dry foliage. I guess I'm just not that dedicated to my photography. I didn't want to get my jeans dirty! LOL Plus, why do it when I have a wonderful husband that will! ;) I love the sharpness of the foliage against the blurred background with the kids playing hockey! I also love how the sky looks. I usually don't like houses showing in these photos but I saw this as nature meets suburbia!

One LO to share today. This is based on a sketch by Julie Bonner. For anyone who is looking for inspiration, head on over and you won't be disappointed. I used Eskimo Kisses by BG. I love these papers but find them really challenging to use. This is my little brother in 1973. It will sit next to a LO that I did of me and Susan at Christmas in 1964. I wanted the paper lines to match. Anyway, I am really happy with the end result even if it wasn't my most relaxing scrapping experience. :(

I am determined to get the first LO for Project 365 done early this week. I am dragging my heels on it because I'm not quite sure what I will do with it. I'm scared!!! LOL

Little Brother

One LO to share tonight. This is a photograph of my brother back in 1977. What a cutie. He has been on my mind lately as he and his wife are expecting the arrival of their first child and son, any day now. We haven't had a baby in the family for 18 years so needless to say, we are all excited!! :) I used a sketch by Trisha as a starting point but ended up rotating and flipping it and moving around some elements too. LOL I do plan on doing the sketch again as it was intended! I used up the very last scraps of my Pink Paislee paper and mixed it with some Graphic 45 too.

Hoping to get some scrapping done this weekend and my first LO for Project 365!

Happy scrapping! Jen :)

Naughty or Nice

I have two LO's to share today that were made using the Pink Paislee Christmas line called, "Naughty or Nice". I loved the vintage vibe of these papers and the fact that the main colours were red and blue. Love to step away from tradition!

This first LO is of Rob and Dad washing up dishes on Christmas day. I used Sketch # 105 from Sketch Inspiration. The line had one sheet of paper that had tags on the back. It was great for cutting images out. Lots of embellishing bang for the buck. I was also able to use one of the tiny blue snowflake brads that Susan sent me at Christmas time!

This next LO was done using Sketch #29 on The Scrappiest. It was a great sketch to use the fancy shaped paper in the line. Rob took this picture of one of our outdoor ornaments that hangs on our garland! We had what the weatherman referred to as, "fog frost"! It sure added the perfect touch to this not so pretty plastic Ikea ornament! I made the flower but, have to confess that it was totally scraplifted off of the Pink Paislee site! If only I could come up with something like that on my own!! It really does pay to spend the time to check out the paper sites and see what people can do with these papers! Magazines will give some inspiration but with the publishing delay, it is usually with older lines of paper.

On a bittersweet note, 52 Sketches 52 Weeks is now finished but, I was lucky enough to win the very last prize!! I'm still in shock! The papers are from MME and I can't wait to create something with them! :)

Happy Scrapping! Jen :)

Uncle Fester's Apple & Short Hair

Happy New Year to all! I have a feeling that good things are in store for 2010. I even like the look of this numerical arrangement. Yes, I am a very visual person. Although I was sleeping as the new year came in I spent my last hours of 2009 scrapping!

I love this silly photo of Robert. I took it just as he took his new lap top out of the box. Every time I look at this photo, I can't help but to see the resemblance to Uncle Fester from The Adams Family. (hee hee) When we move, in the fall, we will no longer have a den hence, the purchase of the lap top. Who needs to maintain a full room for one computer??? Pure craziness!! Can you tell that I am looking forward to living in a more functional space? I used "Origins" on this LO and the sketch is one of Trisha's. The sketch showed her blog address, but I am pretty sure I found it on the Ju Ju Bee site.

This next LO is also one of Trisha's sketches from Ju Ju Bee. I love this picture of Lisa with her new short haircut. She has not had her hair this short since she was in grade six! She looks so cute. I used BG Sugar Rush papers and Bloomers here. Lisa's favourite colour is pink and more times than not I scrap her in pink. Sugar Rush is an interesting line. I only bought selective items as much of it seemed more fitting for the age of "tweens". It would have been a great line for me to use about 10 years ago.

I took my first photograph for Project 365 and will be posting all my LO's for the project. Next on my scrappy list is to finish up scrapping this year's Christmas photos!

Happy Scrapping! Jen :)
