Proud to be Canadian

With Canada Day soon upon us, I thought I would share my feelings on being a Canadian, eh? ;) I am definitely a proud Canadian. I wasn't always this way. I do remember as a child, going to the States for summer holidays and wishing so much to be an American. Looking back, I realized that the main appeal for me at the time, was the availability of M&M's! They hadn't come to Canada yet and we were stuck with boring Smarties. I guess that chocolate has been a huge part of my life from an early age. LOL

As I got older, my appreciation of living in this wonderful country grew. I think that marrying my Mountie might have had something to do with this. The RCMP is still so full of tradition and history. Where else would any police force have a uniform that included, riding pants, a stetson and "high browns", also known as riding boots. These boots must be polished to a shine and all good Mountie wives know how to get ahold of those suckers and pull them off. Not an easy task, especially when it has been a hot day and the polish is melting onto your hands. (Kinda glad those days are over.) Thankfully, they didn't have to dress in full red serge very often.

When the girls went to elementary school, I would often go in and volunteer in their classrooms. My favourite part of the day was when we would all sing Oh Canada and then pledge allegiance to the flag. It was always so wonderful to see these little people learning to value and appreciate our county. As parents, we always told the girls how fortunate they were to be Canadians. We may have gone a bit overboard with this. I sure hope that we have not narrowed their vision, as there are so many amazing places in our world!!!

As a Canadian, I have learned to embrace our quirks and have the ability to laugh at us!!! We do say "eh" more than we even realize. We do apologize to strangers when they bump into us. We do cause traffic hold ups when the Tim Hortons drive through line gets too long. If I tune into The Junos I have usually never heard of the "talent" that is getting the award. Our Canadian television shows usually are pretty lame (except for Rick Mercer) and the "theme" songs all sound the same and have so since I can remember back in the 70's. How many years was "The Beachcombers" on the air???? uurrgghhhh Canadian Idol makes me blush. Ben is no Ryan!!! But.... we try to stay hip!!! Thank goodness that Justin Beiber is Canadian because now Entertainment Canada has something to report on. It is tough finding that small link to Canada that lets you report on the interesting stuff. How much can you really say about Celine Dion and Bryan Adams????? ;) And...... we use the letter "u" much more than others!! I will continue to do so even though spell check puts that red line under it!

We know that we are really a small nation and are fine with having our good neighbours to the South for security. Let's face it, our military equipment has been known to be just a bit outdated and we did go into desert areas wearing very green camouflage which really didn't camouflage us at all! Opps, that was a bit embarrassing. ;) If this great nation of ours is ever in danger we will be running to hide in the safe arms of our American friends, and we thank you for that! :)

I am a firm believer that we all must bloom where we are planted even if this spot does have about 8 months of winter each year. Our ancestors really did pick the yucky spot!!! Did someone get their directions mixed up?? Thanks for listening to my ramblings. My hope is that all of my bloggy friends out there feel as proud and appreciative of the wonderful places that they live, as I do about Canada! :) Happy Birthday Canada!!!

Backyard Fun!

Another LO of this sweet little fellow!! Just look at that face!! Too cute!! This LO was soooo much fun to do! I used October Afternoon papers and just love the colours in this line.

I used sketch #110 from Creative Scrappers. I loved this sketch and that swirly element just begged for a banner!! I can't believe how much I am loving this banner craze that we are all in. It did take me a bit of time to embrace this.

Wishing everyone a great Sunday. I am hoping to get in some scrappy time again today.

Some Paper Poppy Fun!

I finally had a chance to cut into my June Paper Poppy kit. What a fun and vibrant kit. I totally love the rub-ons in the kit! What an easy way to do a quick title. I punched 2 inch circles out of one of the patterned paper to make the border. It was a great LO for adding some hand stitching to. Another LO of my friend's sweet little fellow. This is the day before his first birthday.

I used sketch #129 from Sketch Inspiration. I switched it up a bit to better accommodate my vertical photo.

Lookin' Pretty in Pink!

Wow!! I am so excited. Apparently, I am a Pretty in Pink member in the spotlight this week at the Pink Paislee Live Pink site. They liked this LO that I did of little Gus. It is based on a sketch from Julie Bonner. I uploaded every Pink Paislee LO that I have done in the past 6 months all in the same day! LOL

Looking for a New Blog Look?

I just found a really great site for free blog designs! It is called Allie Brown's Layout's. What I love about it, is that the backgrounds come with a matching header!!! As you can see, I added a header to my blog, but am proud to say that I have not changed my background!! ;) I also noticed that the headers seem very empty on the top portion so they would work really well with the limited flexibility of the Blogger title positioning. Hope this site is helpful to anyone who is looking for a blog change! Yes, I am trying to drag all of my bloggy friends along with me into the abyss of constant blog design changes!!! LOL

I'm hoping to scrap tomorrow but will have a LO to share on Sunday with the newest sketch up at Creative Scrappers.

This is Why I Don't Have a Tattoo

Hello bloggy friends!! I have changed my blog yet again!! I'm almost embarrassed by how often I seem to do this. Yes, this is why I will never get a tattoo and learned long ago that putting up wallpaper is not an option in my life!! I just love pattern and colour too much to want it to always look the same. Hmm, must be why I love scrapping!!

This one seems bright, summery and even whimsical so let's see if I can keep it for the rest of summer. Well, who am I kidding, maybe for a month until I'm in a vintage-y kinda mood and switch it up yet again. ;)

Pink Paislee Peeks!!

Look what I noticed on the Pink Paislee blog today!

I love the Sweetness line! Can't wait for the full sneak let alone the reveal!! This is the only teaser so far.

Not a lot of scrapping going on. :( The studio has been partially packed for storage and the best stuff will be going to my MIL's incase I NEED it. ;) I have to say that dismantling the organization of that room was very unsettling!! There are many unknowns with this move as they have moved our condo date to a possible mid August now. Somehow, it seemed that if the buttons were in order, we would all be all right!!! LOL I'll be looking forward to going through all my supplies and reorganizing them in my new studio!! :)

Diane moves today so we will be busy with that. I am hoping for some time to play with my new kit soon. :)

A Happy Day!!

Yay!!! Look what came in the mail today!!!!! Yes it's the June kit from Paper Poppy Kit Co.!!!

Pure nummy-ness!!!! I have to say that Aphra outdid herself this time!!! I can't wait to play with this kit! Its arrival has been motivating me to do lots of packing all week because I know I will get on a bit of a tangent now! hee hee

Card, Cards and more ...... Cards!!

I think I pretty much have enough cards for the entire year now. I put together two more of the BG card kits!!! Yay!!

Here are the cards from the "Wisteria" line.

Here are the cards from the "Green at Heart" line. I used some MME tags to make two of the cards into Father's day cards.

The blooms are finally out on my Lilac bush!! Springtime has reached Alberta!!! ;) I always chuckle when I see LO's from ladies in the south that show these blooms in March! I wish!! :)

Have a wonderful and hopefully "scrappy" day! I am getting into some packing these days and it is looking pretty bare around here! It has been 13 years since our last move and I don't know how I have accumulated so much "stuff". As much as I make a constant effort to donate things that we are no longer having a use for, I still have too much "stuff". So much of it is decorative and it makes me wonder what the point of it is. But, I guess it is these items that make a house a home when it is all set up. All fine, if you are not having to pack it all!! LOL

Elementary Scrapping

I have been having so much fun today making cards! Yes, I am cheating again and bought the Max and Whiskers card kit. Fun, fun fun!!!

So I have decided to donate these to the Alberta Dachshund Rescue instead of making another photo album. Yes, sad to say that the first album is still sitting at a $5 bid. The bidding continues until the end of August so who knows, maybe there is hope yet! ;) I just couldn't justify putting all that time and effort, let alone the cost of the supplies, to have it go for $5.

Okay, so the card kit cost me $19 and I'm guessing the cards will go for $3!! LOL On a funny note, these "lovely" Dachshund corn on the cob holders are sitting at a $10 bid!! LOL I must remember that old saying about beauty being in the eyes of the beholder. Very true. :) There is also a really 70's kind of hooked carpet wall hanging of Dachshunds that is sitting at $20. (tee hee) Anyway, it all goes to a good cause and we must always remember to keep our humor in life!
Speaking of trying to keep good humor, Rob and I found out yesterday that our condo will now possibly not be ready until mid August. It was laugh or cry so we decided to see the positive and not freak out. We have lots to be grateful for in life and these small things will work themselves out. Not that we are not frustrated but we are at the point that it doesn't freak us out anymore. So our possession date is looking very close to the original date of late August that we were told at the onset of construction. We will be homeless for a month now. :( My sister, Susan, is still coming out in July so we are going away until the end of August. Thank goodness I have Susan's trip to look forward to. :) Then I will stay at my DD's until the condo is ready. Rob will stay with his parents. Diane's place is small so she doesn't have room for all of us. Poor kid, she moves out into her own place next week and within a month, Mommy will arrive!! LOL

Well, enough of my update. I got on a bit of a tangent there! ;)

My First Reveal..... Ever!!

Well, it is a happy day for me today, as my first DT work is up on Creative Scrappers!! Here is sketch #108!

I love any sketch with a circular element so this was right up my alley. Mo was my muse, of course!! I used some Max and Whiskers papers, but stayed away from the really kitchy pieces.

Take a peek at Team P's reveal and play along!! The sketches are really terrific, especially with there being 4 sketch designers on the team! It allows for a great variety.

When I posted my photos on the blog yesterday, I forgot to post the one photo that I was hoping to get at the park....... Bison!!! Gotta love these beasts!! They were actually not visible in the park and we had to pull over on the side of the highway to get this shot. It is funny because there are postings throughout the park with warnings to NOT approach the Bison. No problem there!!! ;) They are HUGE and could cause a person quite a lot of damage! Scary!!!!

A Good Photography Day

Rob and I went to Elk Island National Park today to take a quick look around. We will definitely be spending some time there this summer, enjoying nature and looking for photography opportunities. Here's what we saw!

A Red-Winged Blackbird. This is the male. The female almost looks like a Sparrow.

A beaver dam. (No Beaver. :( )
A gopher. What a little cutie!!

People flying a kite! Perfect breeze for it today!

Swampy grass!!

Then we stopped off at a new candy store that has just opened up in town. It was fun to see some of the old candies that we ate in the 60's and 70's! It was a wonderful and very colourful shop!!

Can't wait to scrap some of these. Gotta get my picture supply up so I'll have lots to scrap this winter!!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

A Little Eye Candy

My tiny Iris plant is in full bloom!! Its one week of total beauty and glory for the entire year. (The rest of the time it just looks like a very plain green stalk.) So, I figured that it was fitting to share it's loveliness with the world!!!! aka my bloggy friends!!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!! Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Time of Wonder

I just LOVE this photograph of Andrew and little Thomas. It is another one taken by the very talented Carolyn. Mom says she just has a knack of taking the most amazing photos when people don't even know she is! That is what a great camera will do for you! She uses a Nikon D90! A tool I viewed in the store once and was not only scared by it's functions but by it's price tag too! ; (Sorry for the bit of glare on this photo of the LO. )

I really liked the look of Queen Bee with this photo. It is funny to think of this masculine vibe for a baby photo but it works. I had some more fun with those little cork pieces and did some machine sewing too. The Jillibean corrugated alphas seem to compliment the cork nicely too.

I used Liz's sketch this week at The Scrappiest! Here it is if you are wanting to play along.

Well, today we have someone coming in to give us an estimate for moving. It is funny to think of how we are moving all of about a mile away into the next subdivision and yet moving is a pricey thing if you want your stuff moved safely not to mention that it will likely go into storage while we are homeless. :( Back in the day, we would borrow someone's truck, throw everything in the back and hope for minimal damage. LOL Oh to be young again!! ;)

I hope to start my second album for the Dachshund Rescue silent auction, today! I check last night and so far the first album has brought in a whopping $5!! I probably have more than $5 of buttons in that album!!! ;) Oh yeah, the daisy blog header is back by popular demand! Well, actually two of my followers were missing it and me a bit too. ;)

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)
