Where is my Mojo?

Hello bloggy friends! Just popping in to say hello! I have nothing scrappy to share as I seem to have lost my mojo this week. :( So very sad and somewhat alarming because this usually doesn't happen in my scrappy life. Could it be that I over scrapped last week? I never thought that there was such a thing. hee hee Maybe it is "scrapbook overstimulation"! Did I save too many sketches to do, LO's to scraplift, magazine clippings to inspire me? Did I post too many comments, view too many new paperlines, search for too many new challenge sites and lose too much sleep to scrappy thoughts? I think I have a diagnosis here!!!! LOL

I do have two pieces of news to share. First off, my sister Susan has finally started a scrappy blog! I am so very excited that my hounding has payed off. Pesty little sister, ya that's me! ;) You can find her first post here. Pop over and say hello if you have a chance! :)

Secondly, I wanted to share the title of a book that I just finished reading. See, something good has come of my scrapping break, I actually read a book. I really did read before I entered the cyber world of scrapping about two years ago.

So, it is called "Room". It is by a Canadian author, Emma Donoghue.

I don't want to say too much or give anything away but, it is written from the perspective of a 5 year old boy. A sad subject but a story of the strength of the human spirit and our instinct to survive. It is a hard book to put down and after I finished it, the story keeps popping back into my mind.

Lastly, I am toying with the idea of starting to share some vintage clipart periodically. I could spend hours on these sites, just looking through these wonderful images from long ago. Illustrations from children's books and old advertisements are some of my favourites. I think I need to invest in a good printer so I can take advantage of some of this amazing and free stuff on my LO's. I'll leave you with this.

Happy Scrapping!! Jen

Get Picky

Just a quick post to let you all know about a new challenge site that will soon be up and running!

Get Picky will have a challenge every two weeks. One will be a sketch challenge using multiple photos and the second will be inspiration based. They are just in the process of introducing their DT. Sounds like it might be interesting!! :) I need a push to start scrapping multiple photo LO's. You can check out their Give Away here!

Flying Solo

I spent yesterday playing with Restorations again!! This line is going a long way and seems to just put itself together. It is so easy to work with.

I am proud to say that I created these two LO's without a sketch. I decided to just use the product as my inspiration. I pulled everything from the line that went with the colours I was working with and just shifted things around until I got the look that I was pleased with.

Here is my father-in law. I have posted this photograph on my blog previously and was really happy to get it scrapped. The Jenni Bowlin butterfly went so well with this line. I just removed the gems and replaced it with a button which suited the vintage vibe better.

Here is me and Rob on vacation last year. I pulled the colour of my shirt for colour inspiration. The kraft envelopes really go well with this line. The banner is a rub on!

Well, I had better take a bit of a scrapping break this weekend. We finally have some really warm weather and I want to enjoy it while it is here! Wishing you all a fun weekend!!

Some Indie Girl Goodness

Well, I finally tore myself away from Restorations, just long enough to play with some more Indie Girl. The perfect line for this vintage effect photo of Diane and Gus.

I wanted to document just how hopeful he always is that his human family will remember him before taking the last bite. Diane and Gus have a history, as he once nipped her leg a little when he got just a little too excited about her eating chicken. Poultry brings out the worst in Gus! ;)

I decided to hide the end of my stitched line behind a banner. Banners really do have a lot of uses!
This flower was made by using a Studio Calico rub on and then cutting the image out. Do you see that little pink ticket? I just LOVE it. I picked it up at my LSS. It is actually mounted on a piece of wood!

This store has a huge wooden cabinet with many drawers and each one contains things like this....

or this.....

I have to seriously go in there one day and just spend about an hour going through all the goodness in there. The stuff is a bit pricey. I paid $3.75 for that ticket!! But I can rationalize it..... sometimes, that little bit of goodness just adds such originality to a LO. The perfect touch if you will. ; Gee, I hope the big guy buys this line! ;) LOL He is actually my biggest enabler of my scrappy addiction!! :) He tells the ladies at the LSS that he just buys me what I want so I stay downstairs in the studio. He then adds that he will throw me down a granola bar once in awhile and make the odd cup of tea for me to keep me hydrated! ;)

So here is the sketch that I used. Another great one by Helen Croft!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day and enjoying some great fall weather!!

Still Playing with Restorations

I have put a serious dent in my Crate "Restorations" paper pack. It is one of those lines that just makes me want to create with it until I use up every little scrap.

Here is Rob and Susan playing backgammon while we were in Banff. Susan goes through withdraw if she has to go too long without a backgammon match! LOL Yes I was the little sister who would totally frustrate my older sister by saying that I didn't want to play a game today. ;) Sorry Susan. :)

The playing card is hand cut from one of the pieces of paper. I used more french knots on the border too! What is a scrapper to do when she has no small black brads on hand? That really should be a staple in the stash! I have to admit that I am having some issues with that yellow button sitting there all naked like without a stitch in it. ;) It was a pre-made chipboard piece. I debated putting a black button on top but didn't want to take away from the pop of yellow. Oh well, I'll get over it. It must be the stitcher in me that has this thing with naked buttons. LOL

I used a sketch by Helen Croft. Her blog "Scrap a Little" is always very inspiring with not only sketches but tutorials too. You can check it out here. She is also looking for guest designers, so give it a go!! Here is the sketch.

Lastly, don't forget to check out my Give Away here. I am having so much fun with this and am loving reading all about what makes you all happy! :)

Scrappy Stuff & My First Give Away!

Hello Bloggy Friends! I have two LO's to share today. I spent the day in the studio yesterday playing with the new Crate line, "Restorations". Just loving this line!! I'm so happy that vintage-y is in!

This is a picture of most of my family, (missing Andrew) taken in July when Susan was visiting. I was really happy to have a photo of the four of us and now my next goal will be a photo of the five original "Whites".

I used this week's sketch from Sketch Inspiration. It was designed by Jana Eubank and I just love her sketches. I was going for a junked up over embellished look and I think that I achieved it. ;) I was hoping that the touches of black would be enough to anchor the page and give it a flow. I knew as soon as I used that busy floral paper for the background that this was going to be busy. Here is the sketch.

Another LO using a more subtle side of Restorations. I love this photo of Susan. It just has such a peaceful vibe to it. The layering in the top left corner of the photo is a Julie Bonner scraplift. ;) I have to give credit where credit is due. I used french knots for the first time on a LO. Can you see those little beige circles on the doily edge? Yep, french knots. :)

I used this week's sketch from Sketchabilities. Here it is.

Now onto the Give Away. It is my first and I am pretty excited. I wanted to celebrate reaching 50 followers!! I am amazed by this. When I started this blog last December on the advice of Terry, I figured that I would have two followers, Terry and my sister Susan. LOL I totally love blogging and I get so much inspiration from this community. It is so great to chat with people who share the same passion.

I decided that of course it had to be Basic Grey. "Sugared" is one of my all time favourites! I added in some card stock and kraft paper as well as a sheet of pink corrugated! The alphas are Pink Paislee. It is packed with tags, die cuts, chipboard buttons and chipboard pieces. I even punched out some of my famous 1 inch circles from a Starbuck's cup holder and of course there are two skeins of floss to encourage you to get hand stitching!! Lastly, there are buttons and brads. I don't think I ever complete a LO without these. The sheets of tickets are hand stamped and ready to be cut out and there are some flower shapes that I cut on my Cricut.

All you have to do to be in the running is to leave me a comment on this post telling me something that makes you feel happy! I'll draw a name on Friday night and post a winner. No Mr. Random Generator for me, just papers with names, a bowl and Rob can draw the winner. I'll take pictures!! Good luck to you all!!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Saying Goodbye

Today is my last reveal at Creative Scrappers. It was so much fun being on the DT and I loved every minute of it. For this occasion I pulled out my new "Indie Girls" papers! Such a fun line. SassaFrass hasn't put out something in this style for quite some time.

This is me and Susan last summer. We went to my favourite heritage park, Fort Edmonton. I just love walking around these old buildings and seeing how people lived in a simpler time and yes, sometimes imagining that I am a pioneer woman braving the new frontier. ;) hee hee

Here is the sketch! Such an original with so many fun details to it.

Well, I have a bag of Crate Paper's new line, "Restorations" just waiting to be cut into. I am just in love with this vintge-y look. :)

Wishing you all a very happy Sunday. Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Up and Running

Well, I finally have my new scrappy space, "studio" if you will ;), organized!! It has been lots of fun and although this room is smaller, it seems to have a better layout! I went through everything and did a major purge. Feels good to take inventory and to be able to donate some fun crafting supplies to my community. I'm hoping to arrange a drop off at the Boys and Girls Club.

So here is the warning. This will be photo heavy. My sister Susan has been waiting for this post to see the new set up. If you find it totally boring, I totally understand if you opt out of this post!! :)

Here is the view from the doorway. As I have mentioned before, my studio basically has all the furniture that nobody else in the family wants. I am happy to say that I have inherited Rob's desk that used to be in his computer room. He doesn't have a computer room anymore. I am loving having this larger space to work.

Here is the left side of the room.

Here is the right side of the room.

This photo frame sits above my Cricut. I have put some of my favourite nature photographs in it.
Below my Cricut, I have yarn and cross-stitching supplies.

Here are some baskets of embellishments. My sewing machine and some craft magazines sit below.

These pictures are from Ikea. I bought them for the old studio just before we decided to move. I decided to put them away until we moved. It was fun to finally get them up.

Here is my desk area. This bulletin board will hold some inspirational ideas eventually. Yeah, I have been creatively blank lately so this photo is quite symbolic! ;) I bought these tall floor lamps at Ikea for $10 each. Gotta love Ikea. I'm hoping these will help with my lack of lighting in this room. I am missing my amazing lighting that was in my old room. We took the ceiling light fixture cover off to expose the light bulbs for better light. It looks a bit raw, but I'm all about function these days. Eventually I am hoping to find a fixture that will give good bright light.

This is my new wall rub on. For those of you that remember the hunt for a second rub on that I had in my last room that read, "Every day comes bearing it's gifts. Untie the ribbons.", I am sad to report that although I did find this rub on, I was unable to apply it to the wall. I think it may have been old stock and I was unable to get the rub on to come off the backing paper. :( I am happy with this new saying because it holds meaning for me. :)

I decided to keep all my albums in my space so I bought this bookshelf at Ikea. Yes these 8.5 x 11 albums hold some beauties!! LOL

Oh, here is my "artsy" photo. ;)

This bookshelf, I also inherited! It used to be in one of our spare bedrooms. It was actually in Rob's bedroom as he grew up, so needless to say, it is old!!! LOL I have some more albums, as well as my collection of chipboard albums in the white basket. Then I have my Cricut cartridges, adhesives, some Christmas embellishments and the black case hold hand made cards.
Here is where my paper is stored. The small white shelf was given to me from Lisa. It doesn't fit in her bathroom at the condo. Yay me!! It holds buttons and flowers. The black flowers on the wall are plastic and dimensional. They are by Umbra and are really fun and whimsical. They are $25 and you get 25 flowers. My girls would have loved something like this for their bedrooms when they were teenagers! I'm glad that I have a spot to put something this kitchy!! :)

And last but not least..... this basket is made out of rolled up woven pages of magazines! Just loved the "green" aspect of this and it seemed perfect for a room filled with paper! I got it on sale at Urban Barn for $5!!!! I have had my eye on these baskets but couldn't justify the regular price.
So, I hope that this post has not been too painful. I am happy to say that I actually did some scrapping last night. I did a LO for my last assignment for Creative Scrappers. The DT time just flew by and it was so much fun! I'll still be playing along for sure. I am happy to say that Aphra is still on the DT as well as two more of my bloggy friends, Frances and Kim!! Congratulations ladies!! I am looking forward to seeing your creations! :)

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)
