New Challenge Site

Just a quick post to let you all know that there is a new challenge site starting up that may appeal to anyone who is into making their own embellishments or even using embellishments made by others! It is called Show us your Stuff.

Sounds like a great source for inspiration on making some handmade stuff!

So here is a quick update on my efforts to adopt that sweet little Poodle, Ladybug. My references have all passed and now I am in the process of getting written permission from my condo board saying that I can have a third pup. Our condo rules are very vague, as this is a new construction and the board is far from being passed over to the owners. I'm hoping this will not be a problem. Our community By-Laws allow us to own three dogs as long as we pay a higher licensing fee. Hopefully nobody would take issue with this little 6 pound girl. The last stipulation is that my pups and Ladybug do well when they meet. We will have a three hour drive with our pups to meet Ladybug, if we get this far in the process. So, I am still keeping my fingers crossed and will do everything I can to be Ladybug's forever home.

Wishing you all a very Happy Halloween with lots of goodies and nothing too spooky!!!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Thoughts of "Ladybug"

Hello Bloggy friends!! I have to admit that I have been a really lame blogger lately. Once we got home from Montreal I was busy getting things organized again. I have got my photos from the trip developed but just haven't quite made it downstairs to do anything with them. I do have to admit that the studio is a mess!!

In the past couple of days I have been busy making arrangements to apply to adopt this little sweetie!!

Her story is a sad one. She and four Chi's were found abandoned out in the county near Red Deer this past August. They were all brought to the Dachshund Rescue Center and Sheri took on the task of looking for placement. So far, two of the Chi's have found homes. I have been watching this little one almost daily and hoping that I would soon see that adoption was pending. I had decided that once I got back from Montreal, if she was still available, I would apply for her. With Rob and Lisa having allergies, there are few dogs that we would be in a position to rescue. So, my application is in and I have been in contact with her foster mom to gather more information on her. It seems like it will be a very good fit.

She is between 6-8 years old and is a mini and only weighs 6 pounds. Poor little thing was never properly house trained but it is coming along well with her only having an accident about once a week. If I do get Ladybug or "Lady" as I will call her, I will be doing lots of dog walking and lots of dog monitoring. It will almost be like having a puppy until I get her settled in. I am up for the challenge!! My scrappy world may suffer temporarily and you may see more posts of dog photos and the knitting that I will accomplish while spending time with my pack.

So, wish me luck in getting this little one! :) I'm keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for word! I'll keep you all posted.

Hope you are all getting lots of scrapping done especially now with chillier days ahead.

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Greetings from Montreal

Tomorrow is our last day in Montreal. The holiday is going really fast and we are having lots of fun and lots of laughs.

I finally got to meet this little guy, Thomas!

Our relationship started off rocky,

but before you knew it, we were fast friends!

Here is Little Peanut and the Two Old Aunts! hee hee

I have spent some time collecting the Maple leaves that I miss from the east.

We all went for a family walk on Mount Royal,

and today got a bit of caching in!

I think we have taken enough photos to keep me scrapping through the winter. LOL

Autumn Photographs

Nothing scrappy to share. Only some photos. It sure is feeling like fall around here. Fall has become my favourite season in the past few years. Loving the crisp sunny days and golden foliage. I'm hoping to get some good foliage shots when we go to Montreal this week. I miss the beautiful red maple leaf that I took for granted for all the years that I lived back east. I'm hoping to be able to scrap a LO documenting the beauty of this leaf.

Now for the photos. This is my shot of the ornamental pumpkins & gourds sitting on my kitchen table. I was quite pleased with my results until I saw Rob's take! ;)

Yes, I have to agree that he is the photographer of the family. The blur of blue in the background is actually our large bottled water jug. It strangely adds a great contrast.

Here is the slough on a sunny afternoon.

Yet another view of my slough! ;) I never get tired of looking out of my kitchen and seeing this. There is a large muskrat that we see swimming some evenings. The ducks are scarce now and I think that the last of the Canadian Geese are flying toward a better location for winter. Lucky!!!

Here is my friends little guy!! Such a handsome little sweetie!!

This is what happens when his mother's crazy friend feeds him candy and then decides to have him sit for a bit of a photo shoot! He is actually happy here and is posing for us. He LOVES getting his picture taken. He is so hilarious!! He was just sitting there and as soon as we got out the camera, this..... Too funny! He just melts my heart!
Here is Maggie May just hoping for a goldfish cracker to be thrown her way, again.

And one more of this handsome little fellow! I think he is chewing on a goldfish cracker here.

Wishing you all a wonderful week with some time left over to do something creative and scrappy!!

Happy scrapping!! Jen :)

Celebration at Creative Sketches

Creative Sketches is celebrating their 125th sketch!! Kristine has an amazing reveal today with tons of inspiration. She will be sharing new reveals on the sketch throughout the week with over 70 designers. I got to play along one more time as she invited past DT members and readers too!

Here is my take. The sketch was perfect for this grad photo of my nephew, Matthew. This is Susan's eldest son. I followed the sketch very closely as the stars were just perfect for a graduation LO! I used a variety of paper here, Basic Grey, Pink Paislee and Cosmo Cricket. The little ticket was made using a stamp! Such a great stamp to have to be able to stamp a ticket in any colour!!

Here is the sketch!

Hope you get a chance to play along. There are lots of prizes to be won!!

Lastly, Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian friends!!

Little Man

Just a quick post to share my latest LO of Thomas. I think that he is just the happiest baby ever!! What a cute face!!! I get to meet him next week and I am soooo happy! I just got back from the mall as I was shopping for a fall ensemble for him. OMG am I ever out of touch with baby clothes! I must be old. ;) The stuff is just so amazingly cute and everything is so matchy. It is almost as fun as buying scrappy supplies! Almost..... ;)

I used a mix of lots of different stuff for this one going with more of a palette instead of a line. I am having so much fun using these little kraft envelopes. Susan bought a pack when she was here and gave me half! It will be so great when we live close and can share doubles that come in packs. More variety for us to play with, I say! I love the popular "Little Man" saying these days. I was happy to find a title card of it. Title cards are a nice change to my usual use of alphas and much easier too.

Hope you are all having a great day with some scrappy time too! I'll leave you with a cute baby clipart in celebration of Thomas!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

The Secret of "Sweetness"

Last night I started to plan how I would prepare to cut into my Pink Paislee "Sweetness" paper. It was finally time to unlock the mystery of how to use this paper that I find so daunting. I immediately thought of Pearl. Now, what would Pearl do? I imagined Pearl sitting in her scrappy space, in sunny Singapore, surrounded by bottles of mists and other artsy medium. I could just see her misting, splattering, dabbing, dripping and blotting! She would be creating magic! I then thought about my collection of 4 bottles of mist, 3 of which match no paper line ever created. :(

Next I could see Pearl taking out her collection of custom made hand dyed ribbon. Hmm maybe she would make some especially to match this line! Once again, I thought of my small container of ribbon of which I can never really figure out what to do with and how to really get it to stick to my paper for life! :( At the end of my vision of Pearl's scrappy goodness, I imagined her reaching for that perfect button and placing it on her LO. This button is so original that most of us have never seen one in all of our scrappy searches!!!!

After all of these thoughts, I was nowhere nearer to cutting, so I decided to take Pearl's advice and not only do my "thang" but to also do some "fussy" cutting. So a fussy cutting I began!! I had a somewhat restless night's sleep, as by bedtime, I had not really decided what photo to scrap and had yet to pick out a sketch for inspiration. Yes, the tortured artist in me rears it's ugly head once again as I awake in the middle of the night, wide awake and trying to solve my creative dilemmas. ;)

So here is what I have created on about 3.5 hours of sleep. Pearl, I hope I have done you proud. :)

The key to my using these papers seems to be in mixing them up with some less busy MME "Lost & Found". The "not glittery" sheets, that it. I elevated some of my flowers with pop dots to add dimension.

I used the pattern of the pink MME border sheet to house my journaling. The word happy already printed and then the "sweetest day" rub on. Even the PP yellow rose pin seems anchored as it sits in it's frame.

The chipboard buttons are by Graphic 45 and the vintage alpha card is Jennie Bowlin. I never did end up using a sketch for this one. I let the product be my inspiration.

Well, I feel that I have successfully conquered "Sweetness". I have enough to make one more LO. {sigh} I think I need to rest up and play with something easy and whimsical next. Thank you Pearl, for being such a great scrappy friend and always giving me the push I need. :)

Happy Scrapping!! Jen

Some More SassaFrass

One more LO done for my holiday album. Yay!! Pulled out the Indie Girl one more time. Things went much smoother than they usually do when I play with SassaFrass only because I did a bit of scraplifting here to help me coordinate these crazy busy papers. You can see what Liz Qualman did here.

And here is mine. Thank you Liz! :)

Liz mentioned how the alphas from a previous Paper Poppy kit matched really well and I had some vintage dictionary paper from a previous kit also, so I was set!

I was lucky enough to find this chipboard flower shape in the perfect color. I roughed it up with a file and then added a Prima flower on top.

I mounted the cloud sticker on some kraft to complete my visual triangle.

The background paper is from the MME "Lost and Found" line. What do you all think about the line? I love the vintage vibe but yuck on the glitter! I picked through and only bought unglittered pieces but there isn't much colour in these pieces. I will basically use the sheets with other lines, I guess.

The sketch I used is by Allison Cope. Here it is.

I will leave you with this fun vintage clipart. Gee, Rob and I never have that much fun in the kitchen! LOL

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

"Wishful"

It is an overcast and somewhat gloomy day here in Alberta so..... what a great day to hide out in the studio and scrap!!!!

Here is another photo of that furry love of mine, Mo. Those green eyes just make me happy. I used some Fancy Pants papers called "Wishful Thinking". I was really attracted to the banner that was printed on the sheet of borders. The perfect title to capture Mo just wishing that the birds will fly down and play with him. Yeah..... or something like that. ;) I was unsure as to whether this colour palette would work with this very green photo but decided that the pinks brought out the pink in his ears. It felt good to use a different palette than I would usually choose for this kind of photo.

I finally got to use that little chipboard owl that I have had forever. Now I only have 4 more to find homes for. The pin at the top is from the new Pink Paislee "Sweetness" collection. I was shocked that my LSS had it in already.

I used this week's sketch from Creative Scrappers designed by Aphra. I like the amount of white space in the top of the LO.

Not sure what my next project will be. My "Sweetness" line is calling my name but I'm scared to use it!! I have been sooo excited to get my hands on some of these papers, but once I got them home and looked at them I realized that they have a real "Webster's Pages" vibe to them. Totally beautiful but I can never figure out what to do with them. I've been snooping around the PP site looking for some scraplifting, ummmm, I mean inspirational ideas. ;)

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

My Favourite Cat

It has been a while since I scrapped a photo of my "grandkitty"! I love this photo of Mo in total primal stealth mode as he tries to hunt down bugs. He is quite the hunter and I am shocked that he never got stung when I consider just how many bees he tried to catch.

I used Pebbles "Tree House" for this LO. I don't usually look much at this manufacturer, but took a closer look yesterday now that Sarah is on the DT!! Yeah, I went to the LSS for some retail therapy and now I'm ready to create!!! yay!!!! Anyway, I really enjoyed working with this whimsical line with the glittery chipboard embellishments. The palette was perfect for this outdoor photo. I cut the border from a piece of paper. I like the flowing lines of it.

I used some of the journaling/title cards to layer a corner element and then wove jute through the border.

The sketch is Sketch #144 from Sketch Inspiration. This sketch sure had my mind spinning. Bubble wrap and ink or lots of punched circles would be awesome. But.... I had no bubble wrap and kinda took the quick way out by just cutting out a scalloped circle on the Cricut. ;)

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Maybe This Will Help...

Okay, I think I have found a cure for my loss of scrappy mojo!! Take a look at the October kit at Paper Poppy Kit Co.! Yummy!!

I would never get Lily Bee papers around here and it takes us forever to get any new Pink Paislee line. :( If only I could find a way to teleport it into my hands right now!! LOL

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend with lots of scrappy fun!

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)
