The Scrappiest #126

Hello Bloggy friends!!  Just wanted to share my take on this week's sketch up at The Scrappiest.  One more photo of my favourite Grand Kitty, Mo.  I had the pleasure of Mo's company for three days last week.  He stayed with us while Diane was out of town for work.  He is always a pleasure to have around and seems to really enjoy our loud and busy household.  He is definitely a "people cat", a very hairy "people cat".  A good vacuuming is always in order upon Mo's departure.

I had so much fun with this LO mixing old stuff with new stuff.  It has everything from old BG "Stella Ruby", "Porcelain" and "Wisteria" to new Sassafrass and Jenni Bowlin.  Love this monochromatic look.

Here is the sketch.

A Winner!!

Susan and I had another fun day together yesterday.  We didn't get much scrappy stuff done as we were doing things for my parent's upcoming 50th Anniversary.  We are pretty much ready now!

As promised, we made the draw for our embellishment giveaway!  Here are the photos of our very high tech process!!

Congratulations Teri!!  Please email either Susan or myself with your address and we will get your package of goodies into the mail for you!  And.... yay to the Canadian Postal system for returning to work today!!

Just a quick reminder that Susan and I will be having a giveaway in July after we reveal the Anniversary album.  It is our way of thanking all of our blog readers for all of the lovely comments given to us during our sneak peeks of the album.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Hop

Welcome to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog hop!  You likely have arrived here from Glinda's blog.

Our challenge for this hop was to create a LO about ourself and it had to have at least one "I" statement in it.  Yes, it was all about the "I".

I rarely scrap about myself so this was a great challenge to get me going!  My journaling reads, "I believe that the key to a happy existence is to always remember to live in the NOW."  I was really happy to have this documented as it is something that I strive to remind myself of on a daily basis.  Living in the past leads only to regret, guilt and resentment.  Living in the future leads only to worry.  Ahh, this is the one that gets me.  I am the queen of the "what if..." mind game.  So much so that DH says it really needs to be engraved on my headstone after I leave this earth. ;)  Living in the "now" is the perfect place to be!  Enjoy each moment of this day and make sure to stop to smell the roses along the way!  :)

This LO is based on another sketch by  Shimelle!

Before you hop along, just a quick share of the LO I created for the "Shape" Challenge using my counterfeit kit.  Once again,  here is the "Lovely Lady".  Yes, she is a beautiful disaster when she approaches needing to be groomed.

I used this sketch by Kristine Davidson of Creative Scrappers. I tend to gravitate toward sketches with a circular element.  I am actually trying to veer back to a more linear look, recently.

Thanks for stopping by.  Now hop on over to Bethany's blog to see what she has created!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge LO #1

There is still time to enter the giveaway here!!

Well we are nearing the end of the month and I am just finally cutting into my June kit.  An unusual pattern for me, as I usually have the entire thing scrapped within a few days.

Here is the Lovely Lady out on a walk.   The idea for this LO came from Susan.  She gave me the "Gutsy Lady" circular embellishment and the little "gutsy" tag.  She suggested documenting how Lady is no longer the timid dog she was when we first adopted her.  We figured a photo of her out on her walk was the perfect example of her "embracing bravery every day".   The days of her jumping in fear at the sound of a car passing, are long behind her.  This week she has learned the wonderment of laying on a shady area of grass after a long summer's day walk.  It gives me joy to see her so happy and living the life that all dogs should experience.

I used this week's sketch from Shimelle.

I love her linear style.  She posts videos showing how she scraps each sketch.  I am in awe at how easily she scraps!  Things just come together so quickly and with such ease.  I wish my scrapping experience was more relaxed.  I think that sometimes I spend too long on LO's.  Details are great, but sometimes it is fun to do a LO with a more minimal appeal and just enjoy creating it!  Shimelle's technique in splattering and painting on her LO's encouraged me to be a "gutsy lady" and try splattering glimmer mist on my LO.  I did make a rookie mistake and forgot to cover up my photo.  After noticing three tiny dots of mist on my photo, I wished I had slowed down and thought the process out.  I repaired the mistake by scraping off the spots with my piercer and then shading in the spots with my Prismacolor pencil crayons.  Never underestimate the usefulness of a good set of pencil crayons.  Problem solved. :)

Some Cosmo Cricket Fun

There is still time to get in on the Giveaway here!

I spent some time getting back into CC's recent lines, "Social Club" and "Up Cycle".  While I totally loved the papers that I purchased from the lines, they are not the easiest to work with.  Lots of pattern going on!!  After completing these two LO's I decided to break up the remaining papers to use with other lines.  Sometimes a little bit of busy mixed with something calm makes for a perfect balance.

Love this photo of Richard, Susan and Rob!  There is just something about photos taken of people walking away that I like.  We were at a community park looking for some caches and it was the most beautiful Spring afternoon.

The sketch I used is designed by Aphra Bolyer for Creative Scrappers.

Next I decided to dabble back into an old time 8.5x11 LO.  They always come together quicker for me although they leave me with the feeling that there just should be more to it.  Oh, out comes the tortured artist who lives within me!  hee hee  The teal and grey patterned paper is one of my all time faves of this last CHA.  Such a retro vibe to it.  Just can't get the 60's out of this one!

A candid shot of Diane seems to be my only chance of her not pulling a face.

Here is the sketch I based it on but I unfortunately forget who created it.  I think it may have been someone on a kit club team.  Thank you to whoever you are. :)

The Scrappiest #125

It was another rainy day here in Alberta.  Well, it actually didn't rain all day long but, the showers have been so on and off throughout our days, that it is a risk in going too far from home.  Yesterday we were just about to leave for a walk with the pups when it started to pour yet again.  We decided to go anyway and it was such a great walk.  Nothing like the smell of a warm summer rain!  I am really glad that I invested in a good rain jacket last month. :)

So this rainy day gave me the perfect opportunity to hang out in my studio.  I didn't scrap a thing but I did a major reorganization.  I had a great time going through my stash.  This usually leads me to deciding that there is a better way of organizing things to maximize easy usage.  I also usually get some scrapping ideas as I am looking at supplies.  Things are looking spiffy!!

Today is the reveal of a new sketch at The scrappiest.

This sketch was great for scrapping some photos of the sweet goslings from our pond.  I used a mix of Sassafrass and Studio Calico.  I am loving the "Starters" that Sassafrass has out.   They sure add a new twist to the ordinary background paper.

Our family of geese have yet to return to our pond so I am thinking that they have moved on to a new location.  We have been missing them and are disappointed that we did not get to see them learning to fly.  It was so wonderful watching them grow each day and I am happy that I took many photos of them.

A "Smash" Post

After completing my Smash book, the next step was to gather the bits and pieces laying around in drawers. We all seem to have the drawer where we keep the little "oddbods" that make us happy and we just can't bear to throw out.  These items gave me a great jump into starting my book.

Floral information so I can try to recreate this next summer.

Memories of the goslings who, by the way, I have not seen in three days.  I hope they are okay and just hiding in the shrubs due to ugly weather.  I don't think they are old enough to fly yet.

A favourite place.

A poem.

A birthday card from Susan.

Mother's Day signatures.

A Valentine from Rob.

I am having so much fun with this book and love that it is already starting to look bulky and has "stuff" peaking out off edges of the pages.

On a happy note, I seem to have gotten my mojo back!!  Some rainy days seems to have helped.  I'm working on some upcoming sketches for The Scrappiest and then I have lots of ideas rolling around in my head on LO's I want to do!  Hoping your mojo's are alive and kicking and that life gives you a moment or two to scrap!!

Embellishment Day

Today Susan and I spent our crafty day working on some more handmade embellishments.

We cut birds using the "Serenade" Cricut cartridge and then stamped them with text stamps.  The flowers were made using the 1" seal stamp by Martha.  The bow ties are a counterfeit of the ones BG has released in their two newest lines.  It is so great to have embellishments on hand and ready to use.

Check back next week for details on the giveaway of embellishments that Susan and I are having!

A LO, An Old Reader and my Missing Mojo

I have a LO to share using Liz's sketch this week at The Scrappiest.  A fun linear sketch with a little bit of circular elements.

I love this photo of little Thomas.  I can see my brother's eyes in him here.

After spending some time on the Studio Calico blog, I was inspired to use some SC papers as well as tones of papers that they seem to feature in their kits.  Love the gentle muted palette of anything SC.  The background paper is from Sassafras Lass and I love the originality of it.  A perfect starter sheet.

My mojo has been MIA as of late. :(  Not sure if it has something to do with beautiful weather, but I just don't seem to have the urge to sit in the basement and be creative.  I have been spending lots of time blogging and getting ideas of what I could create.  The creating part just hasn't quite happened yet. ;)  I did however get as far as making a few embellishments today.

Do you have one of these laying around your house?

This reader was used in grade three back in the 70's.  Sometimes the school would sell off discarded readers.  I even remember my mother buying Susan and I each an old wooden school desk.  I think she paid $5 for each of them.  Susan painted her desk white and painted pictures and sayings to decorate it.  Mine sat old and scratched up looking.  What can I say, I like me some shabby chic! ;)

Anyway, back on topic.  These readers can be used to make wonderful embellishments, if you can bring yourself to cutting one up.   I have a duplicate of this book so it wasn't as hard to wreck this one.  Here's what I made.

The scrunched flowers were easily made using the text sheets.  I didn't even have to ink the edges.  The lollipop flowers were made using illustrated sheets with a similar colour palette.  Some of the illustrations were so cute that I thought it would be nice to just punch them out with my 2'' circular punch.  Mounting them on some kraft and adding a sewn on button gives them a bit of interest.  They could be the beginning of a fun cluster or the perfect answer to a circular element on a sketch.  Hey, why pay Jenni Bowin for a vintage vibe when you can make your own.  Having said that, I did run down to the LSS on Saturday morning after receiving an email saying that the new stuff was in. ;)

Hoping your mojo is alive and kicking and that mine soon returns to me.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Having a Smashing Time

I have been having so much fun jumping on this new Smash craze.  I decided to play along with the challenge put out by The Counterfeit Kit Challenge and made my own book.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I bought a 6x6 inch AC album for $3.  I decided to use Crate's Emma's Shoppe for my covers and dividers.

My book has six sections to help this very random book have some kind of order.

For the pages within my book I chose a variety of papers mostly from my paper stash bought out of the sale bin.

Some pages are graphic and have lots of room for writing without using a journaling spot.

Some pages have lots of pattern.

Sometimes I stamped.

Sometimes I decorated with tags.

I went through my stash and gathered items to counterfeit what is being sold with the Smash books. I do have to confess to splurging on some washi tape!  But hey, I can get use out of this on LO's also. ;)  I will keep this stash close at hand in order to have some continuity in the look of the book.  I have also kept a small stash of Emma's Shoppe paper that I can make small embellishments with as I smash things into my book.

I have noticed that some people's pages in their Smash books are almost like a LO.  Lots of beauty and design.  My pages will be very random with things literally just smashed in.  I am going for the junky look.

Here is a peek at some of my first items smashed.

I am quickly gathering more.

I totally love this new take on an old idea!  I think it is the perfect place to save little bits and pieces that I love and that will be fun to look at in years to come.  I also love the fact that most of this project was done with supplies that I already owned.  Putting it together for myself has made it that much more personalized.  These handmade books would make terrific gifts for non scrapping friends.  It may just be the push they need to get scrapping.  :)  So... are you going to "smash" this summer?

Making Embellishments

Susan and I met yesterday for another day of crafty fun!  In our efforts to use up scraps of paper, we decided to make some embellishments.  It is always great to have some handmade ones ready to use.

Susan came prepared with a variety of handmade templates in the shape of clouds.  We traced and hand cut these.  I wonder when Cricut will come out with a cartridge with clouds.

Then we made a variety of flowers and some little flag banners using toothpicks.

Our most favourite flower to make was the pleated flower.  We used Susan's Martha Stewart score board and it was a breeze.  I finally caved and got one for myself!

Here is a tutorial on making these flowers using the board.

We are planning a few more embellishment making days and are planning on doing a giveaway together of some of these goodies.  Susan is even crocheting some of her wonderful little flowers for it!!  So stay tuned in the next few weeks so you can be in on the chance to win!  :)
