More Victorian Garden

Two more LO's to share using one of the new Echo Park lines.

Loving the softness of this line.  I even broke out the pink Glimmer Mist for a bit of splattering.  The  crocheted flowers are made by Susan!  I have hidden journaling at the top in the little envelope.  In my new plan of getting the story down, I wanted lots of room to document my mother's relationship with her friend Elsie.  Elsie has just recently moved out of the apartment building that my parents live in.  She has moved to a senior's home in another community to be near her daughter.  Her memory has been failing her as of late.  I am sure that my mother will be missing her friend.  :(

I used this week's sketch up at Creative Scrappers.

I love this old knitting basket of goodies.  Each time we go to Fort Edmonton Park and I see this,  I marvel at how much knitting has changed.  I finally got a good photo of it.  The woolies sure would be warm!  Knitting would have had to be a must by all family members in order to stay warm during the long winter months in Western Canada.

I made the flowers by fancy cutting one of the patterned papers from the collection.  I love it when you can make one of a kind embellishment from good paper!  The sketch I chose allowed me to take full advantage of the fancy swirls on the background paper.

Here is the sketch from Let's Capture These Sketches.

Wishing you all a fun and creative day!  Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

The Scrappiest #135

I have a LO to share today using the newest sketch up at The Scrappiest.   I used the new Echo Park "Victorian Garden" collection.  Such a delicate line.

Here is the sketch.

Here is my newest addition to my scrappy world.  It came today and I am pretty excited.

The decision to purchase this comes from two inspirational people.  Shimelle's blog has me inspired to try to get more of the story down on my LO's.  Shimelle says that a LO without a story is like finding a box of old photos with no dates or names on them.  So very true.  I am guilty of telling just a short story on journaling strips and putting the design ahead of the story.  :(  Then I came across this post on Sian's blog.  Looking at this old manual typewriter had me mourning the loss of my old blue one that I sent off to charity about 6 years ago.  I thought that I would never be a able to find replacement ribbons.  Anyway, a bit of googling led me to this beauty.

I am so excited to be able to type on journaling cards and labels and to type out small journaling strips.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Last One

One last LO to share made with my October Afternoon "5 and Dime" collection.  This line was certainly worth the wait.  It has been awhile since a line of paper has got me on a scrappy tangent like this.  Now kits are a different story. ;)

I love this crazy photo of my Lady!  She is hardly even recognizable as a dog!  hee hee

Here is the sketch that I used from Sketch Inspiration.

A little update on Lady.  I had her to the vet yesterday for her annual shots. These are the first shots that she has had with me as the rescue center took care of all of her health needs before I adopted her.  Well, she is one shy girl.  When I put her up on the table she just stayed as close to me as she could and pressed against my body.   When it was time for the vet to examine her she went into avoidance mode.  Keep your head down and look away.  She faced me the entire time and never once looked at the vet.  She wasn't shivering with stress though, so I was happy about that.  So interesting how she copes with her environment.  I am used to Gus, who loves going to the vet.  His tail never stops wagging and he greets the vet at the door.  He always wants to be the first dog up on the table and loves getting anything medical done to him!  Strange for sure.  Maggie is my only normal dog. ;)  Okay, enough of this.  The crazy dog lady in me just emerged once again. ;)  The logical side of me knows that nobody else is as interested in my dogs as I am.  So if you are still reading this, thanks for bearing with me.  If not, I totally understand.  LOL

Wishing you all a terrific weekend!  Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

My Current Tangent

I have been scrapping like a crazy woman, as of late.  The October Afternoon "5 and Dime" has me in total scrappy mode and I am having so much fun!  I have four LO's to share.  I am pretty much down to scraps now but, I think I might be able to do one more LO if I can find the right sketch.

I have to say that as much as I love this line, it is somewhat difficult to work with.  The papers are so busy. I spent some time on the OA blog last night and noticed that the LOs with this line are really busy looking unless the designer just used small pieces of paper and more grid designs with not so much layering.

Now this LO has turned out to be a bit of a "Where's Waldo?" or should I say, "Where's Lady?".

Not a very relaxing LO to the eye but, I totally love that circular patterned paper and wanted to be able to see a good chunk of it forever.  I love the vintage images!  Must come from my elementary school years in the early 70's.  All our readers had these fun type of images in them.  I didn't use a sketch for this LO but thought of how Julie Bonner often divides a page in some of her designs.  I used Julie's sketches as inspiration.

Upon starting this next LO, I was determined to use lots of white space and have a calm and more minimal look.

I really wanted to mix this star patterned paper with white card stock after I saw that Marcy Penner had done it.  I would never think it would match but totally loved the look it achieved.  I mixed in some older OA supplies here too.  I love this B&W of Thomas!  This candid type of photo is my all time favourite.

Here is the sketch I used by Julie Bonner.  I love how many of Julie's sketches are linear and minimal.  Julie is the queen of getting a really clean look with very busy papers.  I knew her sketch would head me in the right direction.  Yay to white space!!

Trying to keep things calm, I found a muted combination of papers in the line, to use for my next LO.

Love this palette with the aged look of the photo.  I wanted to document Lisa's upcoming move away from home.  Although Rob and I have felt like empty nesters for a few years now,  it was not official.  Lisa's busy life has us not bumping into each other for days in a row at times but she still lived here.  It will be weird to not have any kid bedrooms in the house.

I finally used the ever popular "Right Now" title.  Consequently, I have had Van Halen stuck in my head all afternoon.  ;)  Here is the sketch I used designed by Kristine Davidson for Creative Scrappers.

Onto the last LO,  finally.  A little more vibrant but not too busy.  Another amazing "moment in time" photo that I took of my father and my parent's friend,  Betty.  I love photos of people laughing.  I added in some embellishment from one of the Authentique lines here.  Here's to using up a few more of those Tim Holtz mini staples. hee hee

I used this week's sketch from Creative Scrappers.

Well, that's all that is scrappy today!  Hope you are all enjoying these last days of summer.

Happy Scrapping!! Jen :)

Colourful and Jolly

I finally got my hands on some of the "5 and Dime" collection by October Afternoon,  thanks to an online scrappy store in Eastern Canada!  I was so excited to finally cut into this line as I have been eyeing it since it's release for the last winter CHA.  My LSS's don't carry OA so I am thrilled that I finally have access to this wonderful manufacturer.

It was the perfect line to scrap this photo of Susan with her husband, Richard and son, Matt.  They are sitting outside the old general store at the heritage park we visited last month.

It is definitely a busy LO with that large print paper but I LOVE that pattern and wanted to see a whole lot of it!  Lots of this and that to look at but I always love me a busy look.  I'll try to tame down my next creation with this line but, I make no promises. ;)

I used this week's sketch from Sketch Inspiration.

I have also managed to make 6 more Christmas cards from the Cosmo Cricket line, "Mitten Weather" and I still have more of the collection to use up.

Here is a sketch that I used for one of the cards.

My OA papers are calling my name so I am off to create!

Ta-Daaa!

The embellished paper doilies have now been placed into their forever home!  It was so much fun to see the finished product after over 30 hours of labour.

The assembly went much easier than we had anticipated.  Now I just have to decide where to place my shadow box.  It will either be going in my main level hallway or basement hallway.  I want it in a location where I can admire it lots.

A big thank you to Christine Middlecamp for designing such a fun project.  It was such a pleasure to look forward to working on this project with Susan on crafty Tuesdays all summer long.  So what is next up for the White Sisters for crafty Tuesdays?  We will be crossing some stitches!  We are both working on samplers.  They will be our next works of art to decorate the walls of our homes.   Learning to knit socks will be saved for some cooler weather.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

A Hot August Day

Well, it is pretty hot here today and what am I doing?  I've got the AC cranked and I'm hiding out in the basement making Christmas cards.  Weird, eh?  It does sound weird but I know that if I don't get my cards made around this time, I won't end up making them.  This is why the past two years have been store bought. :(  I don't really like the Christmas season that much but, I do like Christmas scrapping lines!

I picked up Cosmo Cricket's Christmas line from last year at 40% off.  All of the fun cut up pages make card making a breeze.  Well, as much of a breeze as I ever find card making.  It always feels like a stressful event. ;)  These cards are very basic and flat, as they need to be mailed.  The Canadian postal system is a total rip off.  One lumpy button usually means a special trip to the post office for weighing and measuring and a cost of about $2 a card. :(

Here are my cards.

These are the sketches that I used from Mojo Monday.

Now I have to try to get the song, "Let it Snow",  out of my head!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Done!

The Embellished Paper Doilies have been officially completed!  It felt so great to finish up Christine Middlecamp's 16 part tutorial.  Here are the last three creations.

They were getting so intricate by the end of the project.  Here is what I have learned!

(1)  Liquid adhesive is my friend.
(2)  Pop dots really make a difference in enhancing dimension on a LO.
(3)  The possibilities with stickers is endless.  Layer them up to make your own creations.
(4)  Small pieces of transparencies really add some umph!
(5)  Inking everything with a small amount of "Frayed Burlap" distress ink is yummy!
(7)  Small amounts of anything glittery is a good thing. :)

So I have to say that I feel that these tutorials have helped me to expand my scrappy horizon.  Now all that is left is to assemble these 16 gems into the shadow frame.  This is a project for next crafty Tuesday.

The Scrappiest #133

There is a new sketch up today at The Scrappiest.  I decided to give it a small rotation in order to accommodate my vertical photo.  Here is Lisa celebrating her 22nd birthday.  Now this is a girl who loves her cake.

I finally used a bit of old Cosmo Cricut  "Girl Friday".  I really love this line.  It is perfect for a Lisa LO.  Pink is her colour and I often tend to scrap her in it.

Here is the sketch!

or in my case! ;)

It's Gone

Wahhhh!!  My Studio Calico kit is officially used up.  I have to say that I enjoyed this kit even more than the last.  I got five LO's out of it.  I always strive for this amount in order to feel that I really got my money's worth.

Finally got a good photo of the girls together.

As you can see, I have clearly been bitten by the "glitter bug", as of late.  Using gold transparencies, glittery rosebud brads and layering onto glittery circle stickers is usually not my gig.  My buttons have been MIA.  I think the side effects of this bite have been effecting my personal life too.  I have been using glittery nail polish and even bought two new t-shirts last week that are embellished with beads and sequins.  This is scary! ;)  Here is the sketch I used from Sketch Inspiration.

This next LO features little Thomas.  I love this photo of him taken last summer.  It is amazing how quickly he has changed into the toddler he is today.

One more chance to use a bit more of that gorgeous geometric paper.  Love it!  I used this sketch by Julie Bonner, for the second time.  That is what I love about sketches, each take looks so different.

One last LO using a photo taken of Rob and his fellow golfers at a recent tournament.  Looking "gangsta"- NOT!  hee hee

I used some Echo Park paper here and scraplifted one of Julie Bonner's recent LO's.  Love Julie's creations using circles that she did for American Crafts.  You can see the post here.

Just a quick photo of my bountiful harvest of Sweet Pea flowers.

This is it and the plants are dying off already.  So disappointing as I used to grow beautiful Sweet Peas at the house and always had small vases of fresh flowers in the house.  I love the smell of them.  One of the best smells of summer!  I'm just getting as much enjoyment out of this little vase of goodness as I can. :)

Well, that's all for now.  I think I need to have a scrapping break.  Phew, I'm creatively spent!  LOL

On A Roll

Things are really rocking on the scrappy scene.  I'm wondering when I will hit a slump and lose my mojo.

A quick LO here featuring my nephew, Matthew, who seems to be my newest muse.  I didn't use a sketch for this one.  I totally love this geometrical paper and wanted to really showcase it.  I kept the embellishments minimal.

I might just get back into the studio tonight.  That kit is still calling me to come and play.  I have pulled some sketches which utilize scraps well and hope to use up every last bit of goodness!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Another Kit

I got some happy mail on Tuesday, this month's Studio Calico kit, "Boardwalk".  It is even better than I had expected.  When revealing the "other side" of the papers, I regretted not ordering the extra patterned paper.  I went through the stash and pulled some other papers that went with the kit and then looked for sketches with less paper layering.  Problem solved!  :)

This LO is based on a LO by Julie Bonner.  You can see Julie's creation here.  I love this photo of me and Susan.  We have a photo of us taken on this same bench last year.

I think these two patterned papers are my favourites in the kit.  I used the transparancy film that came with the circular stamp and used it as is.  Items from Crate's "Emma's Shoppe" and Fancy Pant's "It's the Little Things" went really well with this palette.  I have really been doing lots of machine sewing as of late.  If I keep this up I'll have to rename "Dusty".  Yes, my sewing machine has a name.  Is that weird? ;)

There is a definite story behind this next photo.  Just before this photo was snapped, I made the comment that I always look huge when I get my picture taken with Diane and Lisa.  They are skinny little cute girlies!!  ;)  So I said to the girls to squish in a bit to cover me up a bit.  This is them helping me!  Am I even in this picture??  I love the looks on their faces as they crack themselves up.  Silly girls!!

I used the circular stamp to create a frame for the circular embellishments.  I think I need to invest in some Stazon ink for a crisper image.  My black ink looks grey.

I used this sketch from the My Mind's Eye blog.

That's all for today!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Famous??

Lots to share today.  First off, the Michael Buble concert was outstanding.  He is quite the performer and played for almost 2 full hours.  Lots of chatting in there too, but I like that in a concert.  We had terrific seats on the floor in row #8.  I am happy to report that I touched his arm as he passed up the center aisle after doing a couple of songs on a small stage towards the back of the arena.  I think I might be famous now!? ;)

Onto scrappy stuff.  I did a second LO yesterday using up the last of my Jenni Bowlin "Haven" papers.  I love the look of enjoyment on my parents' faces as they are looking at the anniversary album.  Lots of fun stuff to cut from printed sheets in this line!  I love it when manufacturers do that.  You get lots of embellishment opportunity for the price of a piece of paper.

I used this sketch from Sketch Inspiration.

Next up is the latest reveal at The Scrappiest.  I wanted to document Diane's love for Maggie.  Love this picture of them together. Yes, my dog's paws are on the kitchen table.  For shame!!  Please don't judge me too harshly. hee hee  I used my Studio Calico kit for this one.  Lots of the "Peachy Keen" line by American Crafts in this one.

Here is the sketch.

Well I have a day of domestic bliss planned.  Boo to that.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Inspired

I just love it when this happens!  This morning I was doing my routine blogging when I came across this LO just posted by Kim.  Wow!!  I am a huge fan and scraplifter (hee hee) of Kim.  This is not the first time that one of her creations has compelled me to almost immediately commence scrapping.  I have had some of this "Haven" line from Jennie Bowlin for a while now.  I love it but never was really sure how I was going to use it.  When I saw Kim's creation, I could see it in use!  I went through the stash and pulled everything I own that is JB!  A huge thank you to my scrappy friend, Kim, for her continuous inspiration!!  :)

I have been wanting to scrap this B&W of Susan and Matt.  I love using JB with B&W's.

This sketch from Pencil Lines was perfect for enabling me to use the circular journal spot.

While all this JB stuff is sitting out, I might just take this opportunity to scrap another B&W with it.  I'm just  killing time before we leave for the Michael Buble concert.  Yay to that!   I've yet to see him in concert but know from televised performances that he puts on a great show.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)
